Reading aloud promotes early literacy skills in young children and is widely recognized as the single most important activity leading to language development. Reading aloud builds word-sound awareness in children and takes them to places and times they have never been, enlarging, and enhancing their world.
While the Library is temporarily closed to support social distancing, we will be creating virtual storytimes that you can enjoy from your home. Currently, this includes our regular Storytime program, as well as a special Good Night Stories with Monica series that will be released each night at 7:00 p.m. These videos are available for a limited time.
Storytimes will be premiered live on our Facebook on Tuesday & Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. After the premiere, the video will be available on our website and YouTube channel for the duration of our closure.
This program is similar to our in-person storytime and is geared towards young children, ages 3-6 years old. This program includes stories, action rhymes, and/or songs. Storytime provides a foundation for building a life-long love of books and reading.
Good Night Stories with Monica
Join Ms. Monica and George for a bedtime story! Each night, Ms. Monica will read from a chapter book that we hope children of all ages can enjoy together. Currently, she is reading from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling. A new chapter will be released each night at 7:00 p.m. on Facebook and YouTube. If you’d rather enjoy the story in larger segments, you can binge-watch everything currently released right here on our website!
