The Mayor's Summer Reading Club Returns!

The Mayor's Summer Reading Club (MSRC) is back for another summer packed with free events, rewards for reading, brand new grand prizes, and of course -- books!

Research shows that kids lose significant knowledge in reading and math over summer break. This decline in academic skills is also known as the "summer slide." Over time, this loss accumulates, and by the 5th-grade students can lose up to 18 months of learning. The good news is, reading just 20 minutes a day or six books over the summer can help prevent the summer slide, so that's where the Mayor's Summer Reading Club comes in to help!

MSRC is FREE for all ages to participate — keep track of how much you've read using Beanstack, our online tracker, and earn virtual badges in the process! It's a great way to encourage yourself and your family to continue reading over the summer. This year, The Friends of the NRH Library sponsored brand new grand prize drawings, with items such as a Nintendo Switch, iPads, and Razor Scooters, to name a few!

How it Works

Pre-registration opens on May 24 at 9:00 a.m. Registration is easy. First, register yourself, and then add any additional family members (children and adults) as readers. This makes it easy to keep track of all of your family’s reading time on one account. Groups & daycares should choose the "register a group" option.

Books, magazines, comics, audiobooks, and attending storytime — it all counts!

Not sure what to read? Request a Book Bundle and one of our librarians will select 3-5 books for you based on your reading preferences. Plus, this year, adults who request a book bundle will be entered into a weekly drawing, and we're adding two new categories for summer: summer blockbuster movie packs, and summer beach reads!

Track & Log

Keep track of how many minutes you spend reading each day this summer between June 1 - August 7. Then, log that time in Beanstack. We've recently added a reading timer, making it easier than ever to track your reading time! You can access Beanstack through a web browser or download the free Beanstack Tracker app to your mobile device.

Earn Rewards

As you log reading time, you'll earn virtual badges to display on your reading page. Once you reach certain milestones, you'll be alerted that you've won a prize bundle — hurray! Just be sure to pick up your prizes by August 7 at 4:00 p.m.

Prizes are sponsored by the Friends of the North Richland Hills Library. All prizes are available while supplies last and may not be sold, traded, or otherwise used by participants for financial gain.

Participate in Activities

New for this year is completing activities! Completing various activities in Beanstack, like reading a poetry book or attending an event, will give you additional tickets for our grand prize drawings!

Spend Tickets

As you log activities, you'll earn tickets for our grand prize drawings. Children and adults will choose which prize drawings to put their tickets towards!

Teens will be automatically entered into our Nintendo Switch drawing as they complete activities.

Have Fun!

We have a packed calendar of free events for all ages this summer. Join us each Thursday at 2:00 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the Library for a special event with guest performers like Dinosaur George, Critterman, and Gryffindor, the trick dog! You can also find us at local parks around NRH from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. every Tuesday in June, where we'll bring the Library to you! We'll have stories, rhymes, and activities, as well as staff available to help you sign up for the Mayor's Summer Reading Club and answer any questions you may have.

We hope to see you at the Library this summer!
