All public libraries in Texas use the same shared ILL system that is subsidized and managed by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (the State Library). This ensures that we can all borrow from one another and at a very low cost for the participating libraries. Last year the State Library announced that the system used for this service would be moving from OCLC’s Worldcat ILL system to ShareIt’s ILL system, and so all public libraries, including your library at NRH, would be moving to ShareIt in 2024.
We are scheduled to move to the new system in early May. Our amazing ILL Manager, Circulation Supervisor, and IT Manager (Tonja, La Toyia, and Michael) have been working hard to learn the new system and get it ready for our patrons to use. I am grateful to them for all their efforts. As with any large system change, we anticipate that there will be bumps. We want to apologize in advance for any inconveniences you may experience and ask for your patience and support as we move to the new ILL system.
We are creating training materials and short videos to help our ILL users feel more comfortable using the new system. In early May, we will email these out along with the go-live date for the new system, ShareIt, so that our ILL users will have advanced notice and tools to help them navigate requesting items. We are always here to help, so please don’t hesitate to call or come by if we can be of assistance with your ILL requests.
Thank you for your ongoing support of the library! We are grateful to our community and hope the new ILL system will smoothly serve all your ILL needs!
